Surrealism

Surrealism was a cultural movement in which artists depicted bizarre, illogical things and ideas to express themselves. It emphasized juxtaposition in photography and how things that normally don’t belong together, are portrayed in a single image. Artist’s use of surrealism revealed the true nature of reality, and this removed any limit to people’s perception of certain things and allowed them to think more freely and expansively. This surrealist image shows juxtaposition as we see Dali’s mustache being the legs of two horses. His facial expression is very unique and suspenseful, and the “horse’s saddle” is being used by a butterfly. I found the juxtaposition of this image unique and the vibrant colors really pretty, and they don’t take away from the protagonist of the image.
